Iridescent blue … and golden

Over seven years the large-scale public awareness campaign “Iridescent blue and golden – jewels of the skies,” will take various approaches to inform, involve, and engage people in the region and beyond about the project and its goals. The aim is to foster understanding and, above all, acceptance for the extensive conservation actions.

Specifically, a “theatre play” on the topic will be developed and performed by Fräulein Brehms Tierleben gGmbH Foundation. “Butterfly Rangers” will be trained, and in cooperation with preschools, schools, and extracurricular educational institutions, children and young people will also be involved. A mobile exhibition with interactive elements and various media designed to be as accessible as possible, will be used to explain and promote the target species, their habitats, and conservation measures. In the open landscape, the newly created or optimized habitats will attract attention through their species diversity, colourfulness and soundscape. Additionally, in selected areas, nature- and landscape-friendly circuit trails with imaginative yet low-impact infrastructure will be established to inform visitors about the project.

Video-Messages for the Project Launch

To mark the start of the LIFE Bright Eifel Valleys project, we invited everyone to send us well-wishing video messages.

We received videos from the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Lepidopterologen Working Group, the Biological Station of the Aachen City Region (with LIFE Amphibian Network and LIFE Patches & Corridors), Yannick van der Veen, and the AWO Daycare Center Kreuzberg. Once again, a big thank you for the wonderful submissions!

Miss Brehm’s Animal Life at LIFE helle Eifeltäler

On May 24, 2022, LIFE helle Eifeltäler celebrated the official project launch at Vogelsang IP in Schleiden in the old cinema hall and online with over 150 participants. A varied program of welcome speeches and wellwishes, scientific lectures, and an especially entertaining segment developed specifically for the project by “Miss Brehm’s Animal Life,” provided attendees with information about the two target species of the project—the Common Blue Firefly and the Golden Scheckenfalter. LIFE helle Eifeltäler is pleased that Miss Brehm’s Animal Life has included these two impressive diurnal butterflies in the “only theatre in the world for native endangered species. Suitable entertainment, not just for adults…”. Miss Brehm’s Animal Life: “The only theatre in the world that engages exclusively with native, endangered animal species… research is conducted, knowledge gained, and above all, conveyed what holds the world together at its core. The project series bridges the gap between the latest scientific biological findings and the general public.”

As part of the 2nd Natura2000 Summit in Brussels, Miss Brehm performed a segment of the play. The event was organized by LIFE living Natura 2000.
